Preview This picture was part of a GNOME/Ximian wallpaper collection which I
made last year. It shows a GNOME button on a brushed background. Some
people asked me how to draw such a button and a "smooth" brushed metal
picture. The technique behind doing a "smooth" brushed area in Gimp is
quite simple: Fill a selection of your choice with a color, "Add Noise",
"Treshold Alpha" with value 0 (this point is very important to get a
"smooth" effect), and last but not least apply a "Motion Blur". Feel
free to tune & tweak this short tutorial with things like: Clouds
overlay, add gradients, add light effects, etc. Once I've got some more
free time, I'd like to put a button tutorial/HOWTO online. Two different resolutions and two variations are provided.
