The problem comes about following the rules... The file is wrongly formatted.

But still, it is an very nice gdm bg. Thanks a lot.

I had a problem installing this theme as well. Although I could install it through gdmsetup, it didn't show up in the list. It seems it's a problem in the GdmGreeter file.

To fix this, try:
$ ls /usr/share/gdm/themes

That will show you a list of GDM themes you have installed, and the Soft Flower directory should be there too. If not, extract it here, then enter it:

$ cd /usr/share/gdm/themes/soft-flower-gdm (or something similar, I don't recall the exact name)
$sudo gedit GdmGreeterTheme.desktop

Then replace the content of that file with the following:

[GdmGreeterTheme]
Greeter=soft-flower.xml
Name=Soft Flower Gnome
Description=Simple Gnome GDM - based on the Simple Ubuntu Blue gdm theme by mandha
Author= blueshome
Copyright= GPL
Screenshot=screenshot.png

I'm still not sure what the problem here is (I still a linux newbie, hehe), but that seemed to do the trick!

ThomasNovin, I've the same problem (in RC version of Ubuntu). :(

This doesn't seem to work with gnome 2.20/Ubuntu Gutsy? I have installed it but it doesn't show up. Worked in Feisty.

Although superfluous at this point, I'll add my praise and 5-star rating to all the others. Soft Flower is truly exceptionally beautiful and well formatted. :)
