kaizera: You must running a Gnome Desktop which is not available for Microsoft's Windows.
Try to install a GNU/Linux distribution, *BSD unix, GNU/Solaris or other unix-like operating system which can run Gnome desktop.

Hello, there!

I hope you don't mind, but I used two of our icons in a project of mine for HAM-radio operators.

You can check it out at http://qth.yaxic.org/

I put your name and licensing information the "About this site" page. :)

Posted 21 February 2007 - 02:52

aside from my very picky complaint about the volume icon :), the only *real* problem ive seen with this icon set is that the bold, italic, underline and reset formatting icons in gaim are too big. also, the 'close' button seems too small and squished. here's a screenshot to demonstrate:

Love these icons! They look awesome on Fedora Core 6 :) My only gripe is with the volume icon. Seems non-intuitive looking to me. Can't really tell what it is, sitting in my system tray. Most themes use a speaker icon, I think that would be better.

Great work though!

I love this icon theme, I wish Epiphany and Firefox had different icons though. I use Epiphany for regular browsing and Firefox for web development and I have them both in my panel, and they're identical. :

bugmenot: yeah, i'm still developing these... i'm waiting for GNOME 2.12 to arrive to my door (the postman should bring it in a couple days now).

matze: hmm... i think we must be running different versions :-P i have gtk-media-* and they show just fine in totem, but not in rhythmbox. Anyway, will have updated packages soon :)

Posted 15 December 2005 - 20:23

wonderful icons

From matze
Posted 7 December 2005 - 00:24

I don't think you need a iconrc file. I just tried

ln -s gtk-file.svg gtk-media-play-ltr.svg

in the "stock" dir and I got a rhytmbox with a file icon on the play button :). I flipped through the stock icons, but I didn't see anything suitable for... let's say the pause button. I hope this helps you a bit.

From ertz
Posted 7 December 2005 - 21:47

I believe Rhythmbox' stock icons can be changed only using an iconrc file, i haven't required one so far, but i'll see what can be done :)

From ertz

you can untar them to ~/.icons or /usr/share/icons then fire up the theme manager, go to theme details, then the icons tab and select Neu from the list :)

btw, "~" means is your home directory, so ~/.icons might be the same as /home/barker/.icons

have fun!

Posted 4 October 2005 - 04:48

Hi again, just for your info, here's a list of common gnome icons:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HumilityIcons

This should be handy for an icon developer like you :)

and another request :) maybe some icons for evolution? the trash & cancel button are already themed, but the look strange with evo's default theme.

From ertz
Posted 3 October 2005 - 11:14

thanks bugmenot... i'll add those to the extra directory in the next release, good idea :)
i'm currently working on emblems, but it's coming a bit slow since i released nuovo... but don't worry, i won't leave this iconset behind

Posted 1 October 2005 - 15:58

Hi.

I have a couple of few suggestions. Some vendors change the gnome foot in the theme with a custom one which represents the logo of the distro. I think the filename is distributor-logo.png, so you could perhaps copy the droline gnome foot logo to another file with that name (or, if you're feeling creative maybe add some icons in the extras folder with some vendor's icons but that match the iconset feel, i.e. with perspective?) Just an idea...

I also think you should include the sound volume icons from dl ettiquete in this theme since they fit nicely.

More icons! hehe. I love this icon set. I hope you don't leave it behind since it really rocks. you are a great artist dude!

Posted 26 September 2005 - 20:54

C-O-O-L!!!!

From ertz
Posted 26 September 2005 - 19:37

- no, the emblem-desktop is right where it should be
- well, i think there's nothing i can do about Nuovo's folder being better... i think they'r just *different*. with Neu! i used perspective as a primary resource, Nuovo doesn't use perspective unless it is necessary, so the icons won't become boring.
- ¿?, maybe you can copy and paste those icons if you like them better :-P
- well, i wouldn't know since the only app i have running in the notification area is gdesklets daemon. i'm sure some custom icons can be applied through the iconrc file.
- i think that the yellow X for no write and the red X for no read work just perfectly... i mean, i'm sure you can tell the difference between red and yellow, can't you?

Posted 25 September 2005 - 00:10

Me again. Trying to make my opinion "clear".

- I noticed the emblem-desktop is missing.
- My opinion. In DropLine Nuovo, the folder icons (excetpt home icon) are "better".
- My opinion. I can say the same for gnome-control-center/administration icon.
- Silly observations. Icons in notification area are handled by your set ? Not for me.
- emblem-nowrite.svg. Why the X not a small locker (just change X for a locker) ? Too small ?

Thanks for your patience !

From ertz
Posted 25 September 2005 - 22:53

ClaudioAndre, well the first issue here is that i'm not running GNOME 2.12, secondly, i know that SuSE isn't a GNOME-oriented distribution (well, at least it wasn't before Novell bought it, i haven't tested any new versions since 9.0), that might be the reason for the missing icons.
in a vanilla GNOME desktop (unmodified sources from GNOME's devs) all icons in the Desktop > Preferences menu are themed :) ... besides, if you'r running GNOME 2.12.0 you might also be using librsvg 2.12.0 which has some problems rendering these icons and Dropline Etiquette icons, meaning some gradients will look bad or the icon won't render at all.
hmm... about the 'think a little more' thing, i agree with that... i'm mostly redrawing the same ideas... btw, the alternative folder icon is done, just grab Neu 0.5 and the folders are in dlg-neu/scalable/Xtra/folders :) there are 9 colors for you to choose from...

Posted 25 September 2005 - 22:20

Hi !.

No. It's not related to colors. Eg: in Control Center, it seems that some icons are missing (using a default) or are not related to the others (printers, accessibility). Suse 10/Gnome 2.12.

And, i think there are icons a little bit "different from set". Compare administration, gnome-run, gnome-compressed to sound-juicer.
You can say it is taste/preferences. Maybe. Sound juicer is not colorfull, its is clean, and it is rich, beautiful. The othes are "simple", just that.

I agree with bugmenot in two points:
- the best icons set i've seen.
- might need some "think a little bit more".

Oh! (yet about bugmenot), just to complicate thinks.I think you can give us an alternate folder icon, but i like (a lot) your computer icon.

Please, just keep your work. A good one.

From ertz
Posted 22 September 2005 - 03:32

bugmenot, i just posted an update with most of your requests (except for the GNOME 2.12 capplets becouse i'm not running 2.12, yet...).
also, the filesize has decreased to 925KB, but that's not becouse there are fewer icons, i just 'cleaned' them by removing unused defs, making them smaller and render faster :)... so, let's just wait for a.g.o. admin to accept the update

From ertz
Posted 22 September 2005 - 23:14

bugmenot: i'm looking into the templates directory icon, i just can't find the correct filename, the alternate folder colors are done (7 new colors)

gnomefoot: well, i just sit down, run inkscape and i start drawing, sometimes i do some ugly icons, which i remove almost instantly :-P
all of my linux-related artwork is done with inkscape, the best SVG editor for *nix, and sometimes i use a bit of GIMP for wallpapers.
about the "X" icon... i think you'r talking about one stock icon, if i resize that one, every "X" icon (for buttons like "close", "cancel", etc) will get smaller and that might look even worse.

Posted 21 September 2005 - 23:25

Oh man! Could you please make the "X" icon slightly smaller. In galeon on a tab it doesn't all fit!

Posted 21 September 2005 - 23:19

Here's another question for you ertz
how do you make so many brilliant SVG icons?
If you designed these icons what program did you use?
Anyway I hope you answer me!
THANXS!

Posted 20 September 2005 - 22:50

Great icon set! I think is the best I've seen. I've been using it since I discovered here. Here are some of my suggestions to make it even better:
- alternative folder icon.
- alternative computer icon. (maybe a laptop for laptop users?)
- dia & dia file icon.
- beagle icon.
- new capplets (2.12) icons (about me, login photo, assitive technologies)
- templates directory (it appears in places in nautilus)
- script files (python, perl, etc)

Anyway, you icon set rules. Thanxs

gnomefoot: i didn't quite understand your comment :s

ClaudioAndre: what details do you think i should focus my efforts?, there will be more colors for the folder icon, so far that seems to be what people didn't like about the icon set.

thanks for the comments :)

Posted 17 September 2005 - 02:28

Great icon theme and very complete. Thanks to these I was finally able to drop the SNOWE icons, which I have been using for nearly a year already. So they obiously get a rating of 5 from me.

If it is not too much trouble, could you add icons for the various IM clients so that I can make a Gaim theme with them in order to match everything else? Cheers.

Hands down - THE BEST ICON SET FOR GNOME EVER!!!!

The other point that deserves much praise is the completeness of this set - I've downloaded many sets in the past only to go back to the gnome stock set because of the lack of uinformity.
