I don't think you need a iconrc file. I just tried
ln -s gtk-file.svg gtk-media-play-ltr.svg
in the "stock" dir and I got a rhytmbox with a file icon on the play button 
. I flipped through the stock icons, but I didn't see anything suitable for... let's say the pause button. I hope this helps you a bit.

Thanks for this grrrreat icons set! I just miss the media stock icons for muine & rhythmbox... ;(. It would be awesome to have those.
